Hello From Herbs & Things:)The moment one gives attention to anything, even a blade
of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in
itself.
~Henry
Miller~
Wow, it's Friday already! The week flew by and here I
am just writing to you. I've been playing catch up mowing like I am sure
everyone has. We so needed the rain, but after a few days enough was enough,
plus it was a little to chilly.
I remember a summer when I was a young girl
about 11 or 12, even then I thought, it was a perfect summer. The sun came out
every day with clear blue skies and rained a perfect rain during the nights
watering everything just enough. I remember it was low humidity, the flowers and
trees were beautiful because of the equal amount of sun, and rain, with almost
perfect not to hot days. Yesterday was close to that perfect summer, but a bit
to cool. 'Speaking' of flew by, every time I walked or mowed the Wheel this
week, Heron payed a visit. First two then one Blue Heron, then Green
Heron, first one then two Green Heron. I'll be curious to see if Heron comes
today.
Heron Speaks of
Aggressive Self Determination and
Reliance
It speaks of walking a different path than others. (funny
how were just talking about that at Spiritual Gab Wed. and I mentioned about
me walking to my own beat. Always have even as a child.)
Heron helps one
follow their own path...(and wasn't that what a couple newsletters was
about...My and Herbs & Things path and it was going to be
different:)
Heron is a wader, signifying wading through the waters of life.
It speaks of grabbing opportunities (hence the message I received in the Wheel
Tuesday, "This is the year of opportunities)
Heron's color specifically Green
Heron speaks of living life in ones own unique style and balance between earth
and air, knowing what's best for you with out the prompting of
others.

Spiritual Gab cookout was fun, fun, fun.
What a wonderful evening and gathering of friends and like minded people. Thank
goodness the cool breeze settled and we were able to stay outside to eat. When
the evening turned cooler ( it seemed right on time) we came inside, where we
talked about the book 'The Circle Maker'( inspired by
Honi the circle maker), God , prayers, the Medicine Wheel and
listening to that voice and learning how to tell when it is 'the voice' and not
your own thoughts.
We discussed how often it's hard
telling 'the voice' and your own thoughts apart because
the difference could be compared to identical twins, if you don't know them
it's hard to tell which is which. I was asked how I know the difference? The
best way I can describe it is, a knowing deep in your being. It's a
feeling, that when it's there you know it, but if you question it that often
means it's not 'the voice' and it's your own thoughts dictating to you. It's
such a fine line, kinda of like one particular music note amongst many that
until you train your ear, it will just blend in, but with practice and more
practice...ah ha...you'll hear the note no matter where it's placed or when you
hear it. I'm still practicing hearing that note.
I love that fact
that no matter at what age you are at in your life, you can learn something new
every day. Last Sunday at the Farmers Market I learned of the Spittle
bug. It's an odd name isn't it...also called the Frog Hopper. It's not a
destructive pest, but more a of nuisance. We've all seen them or actually saw
their protective cover and didn't' know there was a bug under there. It's that
foamy stuff that looks like someone spit on the plant...usually in the joint
areas.
That's a Spittle Bug and the bubbles of 'spit' are what it produces to
hide itself. You don't need pesticide to rid your plants of them, just a
hosing or a good rain will do the trick. Read more about the Spittle bug...http://gardening.about.com/od/insectpestid/a/Spittlebugs.htm
I
had a big surprise the other day. John E. someone I knew from the 4-H
days, now in his late 40's came to visit the Wheel. He then brought his children
one by one and was blown away from what he felt and heard. We were talking about
all he felt, and I mentioned, I'd been instructed to put four more benches in
the Wheel, but I've not bought the lumber and made them yet. But I
will.
Friday while packing up for Farmers Market he and his brother pull in
the driveway and he says "Kellie can you come here for a minute, I have
something to show you."
I walked over to the pickup truck and there in the
back were 5 beautiful cedar benches he and his brother Bill, crafted for the
Wheel. It was cedar wood he said he had laying around and didn't know what he
was ever going to do with it'. But then, we talked:)
He was so excited and
got more excited when he saw the look on my face. I told him of
course he didn't know what he was going to do with the
cedar, but God and that cedar knew exactly where it was going, they were
just waiting for the right time.
He got more excited when I told
him, because he gifted the benches to Wheel he would have to be part of
them going to the Wheel. So Wednesday morning at 9 AM, he came here and we went
with sage, tobacco, Turkey feather in hand, and took the benches to the Wheel
and one to the Memory Garden. One by one he offered and placed his gift. It was
more emotional than he had anticipated. It was a wonderful morning
and experience for both of us.
One reason I love the benches so much is not
just the time and effort that went in to them but oh they smell
wonderful.
Did you know that cedar is one of the best aromatherapy scents to
relax you emotionally and physically and also help you to 'see' and 'hear'
better. It is one of the oldest biblical essential oils that symbolized
abundance, fertility and spiritual strength.
To Native
Americans, Cedar wood oil was not only used to cure physical illnesses,
it is used to cleanse the spirit, ward off evil, and to communicate with
nature, both plants and animals. Through-out history, cedar wood oil has been
used by many cultures, in different ways to prevent or cure illnesses. So come
to the Wheel, sit on the bench and you too might be able to communicate with
nature better.
Even as a child, I always ate the egg yolk and
left the white behind. I know I've mentioned the egg before, but I was
intrigued by the fact its the egg yolk I always want even today as an adult,
when I should 'know better' because we are always told, don't eat those bad
eggs.
Well, as per instructions, I searched to learn again a little more
about the Egg, specifically this time about the Yolk.
I was
excited to learn that my body was telling me the truth and the yolk is
in fact very good for you. The yolk of the EGG is jam packed full of nutrients
your body needs. The White far less. What I didn't
know is that, the Egg always quoted as being so high in cholesterol, has
armed its self with things that help lower and keep your cholesterol in balance.
It also gives us that so important Vitamin D and often much needed B
vitamins.
The cholesterol fighting factor in the egg as in grass fed
beef...is CHOLINE. Amazing how if you let it, Nature knows what's best for
us.
So I find it kind of funny, even when "they" said eggs were
bad for you, that I never stopped eating them, especially the
yolks...this must be why, even in the winter, I've never needed a vitamin D
supplement, nor any B's and if I try to take either of these in supplement form
my body tells me...UH NO.
Anyhow, if you are not fond of or don't have the
income to take supplements, then let me introduce you to the simple,
underestimated, where you'll find an abundant of nutrients in one of most simple
and natural packaged foods to date...The
EGG.
Important though is eating the right eggs, which
are Eggs from chickens that are free to scratch, peck and eat bugs.
These healthier more nutritious good for you eggs are higher in Omega 3's, D,
B's and Choline.(it must be the bugs:)
And did yo know eating Eggs can help
with the fight against, depression, anxiety, asthma, Alzheimer's, obesity, and
believe it or not that high cholesterol we all worry about...because of
the Choline...
