Hello from Herbs & Things
In wilderness I sense the miracle of life, and behind it our scientific accomplishments fade to trivia.
~Charles A. Lindbergh~
Again it's Friday morning and just getting this weeks email together, I'm slipping:)...but
Happy Spring, yes I do believe it's finally trying to be spring. It is nice to be able to walk out to the barn and around the yard without hearing that crunch of snow. I usually like the sound of crunching snow, but not when it's suppose to be spring.
I tried it...making 5 gallons of liquid laundry soap. It didn't take long, was super easy...and how does it work? I don't know yet. Linda K, thinks it cleans her clothes better... and at the cost of about $1.25 give or take for 5 gallons, me thinks I'll want to like it:)
I ground a center cut pork loin and used half to make homemade sausage patties and canned the other half...plain.
The patties are yummy. In the patties, I mixed natural herbs and spices (I carry in the shop), homemade bread crumbs and of course 2 of my girls eggs...the organic fennel really gives it that extra special yumminess.
I used our hand grinder to grind the pork loin instead of the electric. I think it worked better. What I liked about doing it that way, is it gave me a better appreciation of the meat itself; of where it came from. It took about 40 minutes to grind about 10 lbs of pork ,manually; the rhythm and quiet of doing this task gave me time for a meditation of sorts plus a sense of accomplishment from saving money, because now I have 12 meat portions of a meal that cost about $1.35 each:)
I learned again...If we pay attention, we never stop learning or being amazed at nature, and her's and the animals way of dealing with life. What I witnessed Wednesday, was proof too, that though sometimes in nature what we perceive happening, is not what's happening at all, and as I ‘heard’ Wednesday, “it’s nature being nature”.
I was going to the feed mill Wednesday, and had left the pickup out side, so I went out to start it to let it thaw and get the ice off before I made my trek. I was looking around a the dwindling snows, and the dogs running around playing when I saw down at the pond standing in the thawed but frigid water next to the dock, about 20 foot from the shore, a young deer, with the water halfway up it’s sides. I'd say a yearling or young 2 year old.
I thought how odd is that…it must be sick, first to go in there like that, and then stand so still in the cold water. It looks like it's dying.
My mind working over time, wondering, Now what am I going to do…I can't get it out of there alone. No one is around, I won't be able to do a thing...sometimes it seems nature is so cruel. My heart ached for this little deer in the cold waters.
I felt worse when I saw it’s head drop down, and it’s nose was just above the water…I thought soon it will be over and distraught there was nothing I could do, but worst, knew I probably should do nothing. It's one of the laws of nature...right?
Still Thinking I should do something but what, I walked down near the pond. Not wanting to push the deer closer to the center of the pond with my approach I walked an arc to the front of the deer through the pasture. I noticed tracks going back and forth at the ponds entrance, like the deer had been contemplating and pacing for a while before making up it's mind to go in or not. I was wondering why would it chose to walk in the water like that…that’s so odd, did it get hit and was bleeding and went in to stop the bleeding? Is it thirsty but can't drink. Does it have chronic wasting disease and delirious? Why would it do such a thing? I'd never seen anything like this. There was no ice on the pond, so it hadn't fallen through. It walked out there intentionally.
Then oddly too, the deer didn't take notice of me at all, no perking of the ears or eyes moving towards me..in fact it's eyes were black and unmoving... I clapped my hands together to get it to maybe perk up, instead it’s head went lower in the water. It was then I noticed it’s whole body was wet, so at one time it was all the way in the water.
Again, I thought how cruel nature is, what an awful way to die. So I walked away, with a heavy heart. I knew if I tried to help it would just drive the deer farther into the waters.
A few minutes later...to see if anything else came to mind to help or if I could get a 'reading' from the deer...I walked to the pond again, this time getting a little closer, as I got closer, something did happen and my heart sank that I had made things worse by interfering, for as I approached and got around to look the deer in the eye again... it dropped down in the water, with just it’s head and nostrils and part of it’s back emerged barely visible above the waters. It was finally going down.
I asked what could I do?
The answer...“Kellie, it’s nature being nature, leave it alone, it’s the way Nature is.”
My human thoughts of Why did I have to see this when there is nothing I can do. I told the little deer I was sorry and walked back to the truck and turned to look one more time and the deer stood up...my heart broke..I thought such a little fighter, and I left to go to the feed mill, hoping that if the little deer were going to die such a cold and painful death to please let it be over by time I got back.
Again I heard, “It’s nature being nature Kellie, don't feel bad...nature knows what it is doing.”
About half way to the feed mill, with my mind on the cold wet little deer, it was as if a flash of light shot though through my mind…and warmth filled my heart....
“It was hiding, not dying.”
As soon as this thought came to me, happiness filled my body and I smiled, because I knew without a doubt that’s exactly what was going on. No wonder I kept getting, "leave it alone, nature knows best…it knows what it’s doing."
The whole picture of the surrounding came together; the tracks at the edge of the pond were not that of the deer, but I knew they weren't, but some how because only the deer was there in the waters and I thought it was dying, I made those track his... but when I looked in my minds eye...I realized exactly what I saw, they weren't deer track but paw tracks. That smart little deer knew that if it went in to the cold waters with it’s insulated coat, and played dead, the predator would not follow. My being lightened with hope, happiness and awe at that brave little deer...How smart.
Thankfully when I got home, the little deer was gone. I search and scoured the edges of the pond, and no sign of him.
So what did I learn from this?
Many messages came that day...helpful hints I can apply to my life
One...nature does know what it is doing, and by following it’s instincts that deer survived.
Second...patience is a good thing...that sometimes even though it's not comfortable, you just have to wait it out for the bad to pass. You must be still and quiet..
Third…Nature does know best...that sometimes what we ‘see’ isn't really what is. What my mind perceived as death, really was all about preservation of life and if I had interfered with Deer’s plans to stay alive with my human plans of wanting to 'help' for it to live, I may have caused it’s death; maybe the predator was hiding in the bushes still waiting, but Deer instinctively knew when it was safe to come out.
It's ok to follow my instincts, such as with the stocking up thing that is persistent.
Fourth...to never ever stop being amazed at Natures ability to survive, teach and inspire us... lessons we can all learn from 'Her' and the 'Animals'.
The Country Pantry and Gift shop has more inside than you can imagine. We love nature, connecting with our Animal totems, hearing natures messages, being shown ways to heal through the 'Medicine' nature offers us daily, our animals, walking a spiritual path, living a simpler life, making homemade bread, canning and dehydrating our garden harvest, and just being outside. Pine Tree 'Speaks'~Meditation is sometimes hard
Part of Herbs & Things March 6th email.
I don't know what is is, but I keep forgetting this is March, it doesn't feel like it...but March 2nd, I would have sworn I heard a Red Wing Black Bird, an indicator that springs is really right around the corner. They left late last year too...Red Wing Black Bird speaks of...Understanding the energies of Mother Nature. Hmm I wonder then,, I think I heard while plowing March 4th, "one of those rare March storms is coming?"
For us? don't know...snow, rain, ice...don't know that either; As always it will remain to be seen if I heard correctly or misinterpreted 'their' meaning. :)
'They' have been telling me for days, weeks, that I need to get back in a routine of meditating, especially now, because I'm not mowing, weeding the gardens...things that are mediation times for me. I've started again and it was a little difficult at first, but I'm remembering mediation not only refreshes the mind but the whole body...READ HERE about difficulties you may have meditation and how to fix that, by remembering...even in mediation not one size or way fits all and it's not always about clearing the mind.
There are many ways to mediate...doing something you love, sitting in nature and being still...what works best for you. Believe it or not, some days sitting listening to quiet mediation music is annoying to my senses, those are the days I need a walk in nature, to work in the garden, sit under a tree, mow the lawn and or wheel, or simply be in the solitude of the shower where outside sounds are muffled.
Tuesday morning I went for a walk without the dogs, they were kind of driving me nuts, as all 'children' do from time to time.
That morning while meditating I was told I need rest and to do something fun today. So, I went for a walk without the kids...LOL
The day was a beautiful sunny day that felt wonderful. The birds in the valley were busy with their chatter, though quieter as I walked up Partridge road.
On the way back down the hill, a Pine tree caught my attention and I had to walk to it. Immediately I felt warmth, love and In my eyes it was the essence of a beautiful tree, not very big, but it's beauty and softness, drew me nearer. I noticed it is growing on the side of a bank and that in order to grow straight up, its trunk had to curve at a 90 degree angle to grow towards the sun. I spent about 10 minutes there in it's welcoming energy. In that time I heard, "Always reach for the sun and you will grow. My energies can help with your physical pain".
So of course, for you and me, I had to search what Pine speaks of.
Pine speaks of balancing strengths, softness and offers emotional protection. It repeals negative energies...and more. But the one thing that really hit home is Pine is associated with Mithra... associated with the Zoroastrian's (remember from The Day After Tomorrow movie's book) and Mithra is also a judicial figure, an all-seeing protector of Truth, guardian of cattle, the harvest and of The Waters... but wait....in Christianity...in Rome, Mithras was a sun god, and, in Persia, he was a god of the morning sun...There is much more. But what's exciting that I 'heard' correctly..because as you all know I don't always trust what I am hearing; this is a wow, that I can't say this was my imagination when I heard, "Always reach for the sun and you will Grow".
My interpretation, always look to God and or your higher source and you will grow. Oh yeah...I heard Pine's message correct...:)

Want a belly laugh...all you have to do, is let one Maddie Bear dog, wearing an E collar, enter barn, and see chickens, turn into 6 chicken little's thinking for sure the sky is falling, horses snorting and running around in the stalls and cats hissing at the creature that must be from hell. Poor Maddie was just dong her normal thing strolling through the barn, un-aware of the impact her new look had on the barn residents. She looked dejected not only from having to the wear the E collar, but that her kitty's didn't want to play with her, the chickens didn't come to check her out and the horses were snorting and running from her and she wasn't even chasing them, which makes it no fun at all.
Makes me wonder, just what did all of them think she was?

The Day After Tomorrow
In one of my weekly emails, a few weeks ago
I mentioned the word Shift, a single word reference I first
heard Jan 1st 2013.
Then Jan 5th 2013 there was a reference I should watch the movie, The Day After Tomorrow, with Dennis Quaid; a movie I've watched more than once already, about 6 times; which in itself is very interesting because usually, once I've watched a movie, I don't enjoy watching them again, alone a half a dozen times.
Jan 17th I took 'their' (their referring to that higher source of info that comes to me) advice and watched it. One... I hoped it would stop this repeated message EVERY DAY and second, I was intrigued as to what I was suppose to 'see' or 'hear', and why did I need to watch this movie again; a movie that has intrigued me since I first saw in around 2005-2006.
For those who don't know the movie, it is about global warming, the shifting or calving of an ice shelve, and the impact this 'shift' has on our earth. This shift in the movie is not what is expected in global warming, instead it puts us into an ice age, in 8 days.
Of course, it's a movie and it's done for entertainment purposes, and some of it is sensationalized for such purposes...yet after watching it again, I 'see' there's much in there that should be taken to heart, that I didn't 'see' before and it's not just about global warming.
It did get my attention more so this time, for the fact in the very first few minutes of the movie, there was that one impactul word....Shift.
I'd forgotten that much of the devastation for the movies sake was located in the Northeast with New York, and Manhattan being the hardest hit, with rains, floods, tsunami's and eventually snows and ice that buried much of the city. It felt more personalized this time, and ironically, for me anyhow, the location the main characters went for safety meant something; the Library....a place of knowledge and enlightenment.
Once in there to stay warm they had to do the unthinkable, burn the books. Also, all communications were lost, except for the land-line phones, making sense or giving confirmation to one message I'm always getting, 'do not give up your land-line'.
As I watched, with more attention to detail this time, I 'saw' how they survived was not with technology but the old ways...land line phones, natural gas stove, people helping people, news papers and actual bound books. For me, there was a message in the fact they burned the books in the library to stay warm; metaphorically implying, with kindles, nooks etc., in a way we are 'burning' books and the written word slowly removing them from our lives. That because technology is slowly taking away the physical aspects of books, if we allow this to happen, it indicated those people, with out the physical aspects of the those books and the knowledge within those books, would have died.
One book they did not burn, a medical book, saved the life of a girl. In another part of the movie, a trick learned by a homeless person, that made his way to the library with his dog (dogs are guardians in the Medicine Helper world), was to use actual newspaper to help keep them warm by lining their clothes with it. The movie incorporated survival skills without technology, listening to intuition, knowing the directions, and the use of actual books. This too confirming all these same messages that have been repeated to me, many times over the past couple years, to be prepared.
Then, this time, a reference to another book they saved in the library, I'd not caught before, was a book/bible.considered one of the first books written. In the book (which if your interest is peaked to search on your own) The prefaces reads..'This book belongs to the very few. Perhaps none of them is even living yet. Possibly they are the readers who understand my Zarathustra: how could I confound myself with those for whom there are ears listening today? -- Only the day after tomorrow belongs to me. Some are born posthumously.'

If you haven't watch the movie, it might be one you'll
want to, or maybe re-watch it again. It gave me confirmations about
what I've 'heard' the past few months, about survival skills, community,
stocking up. I want to mention too, that though technology is good and it's serves much, it is important not to get
lost in it or over use it. We must aware too of the loss of our infrastructure, and not throwing away
the old ways, community and family.

Hello From Herbs &
Things
If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it.
~Toni Morrison~
If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it.
~Toni Morrison~
Dream Time
Medicine Helpers was another fun night at Herbs &
Things, or at least I thought so. I think the others had fun too....because we
were here for a while:) What was nice too, The day after, some had ah
ha's,...I'm smiling because that's what it's all about.
I had a message filled dream that night too.
It's 5 AM, Sunday morning Jan 19th 2013...and the winds are howling and rumbling through the valley like a freight train or a barrage of airplanes flying low overhead. I have to admit, though I love a breezy day, I'm not fond of the winds when they whip like this, but while in the Wheel on Saturday...I heard, 'these winds are the winds of change' so do not be afraid. Alas, I guess I better keep my journal handy because of messages that might be coming through and keep my ears open; I don't want to miss anything, or say as I was saying for days..."Oh I heard that but I didn't write it down or tell you".
Which brings me to, during Dream time Medicine Helpers...we touched on the subject again about journaling, and writing things down.
Someone expressed that it was amazing I've been journaling since 1977. I told them that some years were inconsistent others were every day...so
as I was typing this, I thought what the heck, I'll look back and see what my first journal entry was for Jan 19th and what it had to say.
My first entry was a couple days before Christmas Dec 1977. It was Ricks and my first Christmas together. I turned my journal pages to the first Jan 19th entry, it was 1978.
1978's Jan. 19th was pretty much the same as this 2013 Jan 19th. I wrote of feeding horses, doing this and that, a storm brewing, that was 'running late', much like this 2013 Jan. 19th winter storm, Rick was working nights at Flickinger's then.
I was not surprised at how similar things were on the same days 35 years apart, That's one thing I've learned in journaling is how cyclical life is. There were a few things that got my attention....one of the first things was my writing and how neat and organized it was...Wow I thought was, I must have had more time...LOL. Then a most interesting entry,...was....There was a Canadian Goose on Mom and Dad's back house step today.
My first written thought then was what was Goose doing on their back patio step, in Jan, how odd is that. Well of course, I wish I knew then what I know now, but it wasn't time yet. There were other things I needed to do and learn first... but see that's the splendor in journaling. I am seeing that even then the animals spoke and though I didn't understand the message, I knew in my heart it had significance. I think, in the next few days, I'll have to go through and read more of what happened that year.
But what I now find most intriguing, even though I did not 'know' then I was being spoken too, that they spoke anyway, and now I can see it...and it coincided with I'd just started journaling a few days before, and Goose speaks of, the written word.
Isn't that fascinating... and here, 35 years to the day, I am still writing...every day, even if its just notes.
Another thing...the number of years...35 peak my attention...Why?
3+5 = 8...
8 is my power number..and what does the number 8 speak of? Power, money and infinity...Not sure where the money is yet, but the infinity...well so far I've lived here, on this land and in this house my whole life...and the power, I believe could be the power of God/spirit/ and angels that are allowed to flow through me. My house number is...8441...8+4+4+1=17 ....1+7=8
In Feng Shui a number 8 house, is about money, abundance, success, prosperity, power, which doesn't mean of rolling in dough,(abundance comes in more ways than just monies)
Goose also speaks of the Quest and travels to legendary places...also get this...the number 8 is prominent with Goose. There are 8 species in North America and the number 8 of course is symbolic. Also the formation geese fly in, is shaped like an arrow...and there is more and as you could see I could go on forever...but with out, or actually more of my lack of ability to verbally express the significance of this, I intuitively understand how it all connects and I was suppose to read something from 35 years ago that encompassed so much that's transpired over the years.
Thus... Journal my dears...Journal:)
Oh another intriguing thing...the weather of Jan 19th 1978...it was very similar to this Jan 19th's 2013 weather, in that the weather people had warned of expected high winds, very cold air coming in and then snow, possibly a lake effect a couple days after..and what has our weather from Jan 19th doing...High wind warnings, very cold air front coming in and Lake effect snows...
Cool, very cool (no pun intended, just my age showing:)
Apparently God, my Spirit Guides or the Angles, wanted to get a message to me, and chose to do it Via Raccoon.
As we covered in Dream time Medicine Helpers, most often when we are to get a message via nature....nature will be persistent.
Thursday, morning, standing in the living room looking out the window towards the Wheel and lands, I saw a Raccoon scamper through the field and across the road up into the woods...I thought, strange a Raccoon is out in the day like that; remember that and wait to see if you get raccoon again.
Saturday when the dogs and I went for our walk, in the fairy garden I saw Raccoon Tracks...take note Kellie.
Later that morning, opening the shop, the oracle animal spirit cards I haven't touched in a while.. I decided to ask..."what do I need to know today?"
What turned up...yes...Raccoon...thus I paid attention.
What does Raccoon Speak of...
In spite of any doubts right now, I have the resources I need for a current situation.
Pay close attention to signs and omens your Ancestors or deceased loved ones are trying to give you a message.
It's important to stay emotionally and mentally flexible for the next few days; events will require you to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
Some sort of deception is going on around you, so trust and listen to your intuition.
Monday while in the Wheel I had another great adventure and lesson about and with colors and...a conversation with the Ancestors :)...they had a very nice message:)
I had a message filled dream that night too.
It's 5 AM, Sunday morning Jan 19th 2013...and the winds are howling and rumbling through the valley like a freight train or a barrage of airplanes flying low overhead.

January's Spiritual Gab was fun as all Spiritual Gabs
are, for me anyhow.
I think those who were at Gab, came to a better understanding of why some of us are feeling stuck the past couple weeks, or as for me, my issues with 'hearing' and the lack of incentive and or slacking in writing it all down and then relaying what I've heard to whom I am suppose to relay it to.
I thought it was because I was just being lazy or worse yet, loosing or they were taking away my ability to "hear".
After all it is a gift, and I thought well maybe I was not honoring the gift as I should or not been doing what I should be doing...you know, kind of getting my hand slapped.
But from a little understanding of astrology, as poor Kathy H, tried to explain... it's the other way around...It's about growth and growing pains. Which the Medicine Helpers have been telling me and the energy in the Medicine Wheel has been showing me for months... So my thoughts went where I could understand it all better...to Natures Medicine Helpers.
Going to them, made me rethink that this year, according to the Chinese calender is the Year of the Snake. Snake, sheds it's skin as it grows, But during this process of growth it becomes dormant, 'eyes' cloud over and for a while as they are shedding the skin that no longer fits, they cannot not see or hear, until that shedding part of the process is over and they've grown into their new self. Thus through the medicine of Snake, I could understand my growth and what was happening to me, by comparison.
So now, my intrigue, that this Chinese new year...the year of the snake, is right after 2012, the year I believe, yes many of us grew, but it was also the year more of preparation of what was to come. Which to me, makes the year of the Snake even more perplexing and exciting than before.
Why? Personally, I believe that 2013 for some is going to be bigger in a spiritual way than 2012. For many..2012 and a couple years before was the set up, getting things in line so all the pieces could fall in to place and those that were allowed to become more aware in 2012, have been given a better opportunity to get in line too, and also readied them for 'clearer sight' and a pattern of growth to be completed, better equipping them to help others in their growth.
What does snake speak of....
Rebirth, Resurrection, Initiation, and Wisdom.
Snake speaks of, Digesting large amounts of 'food'... change and healing, activation of energy centers in the body, opening new dimensions ( I was told of a new dimension in the Wheel August 8th 2012), levels of awareness, health and creativity. Which if you think about the health part of it, not only with our personal health, but with the new health care system, dilemma or good, on the horizon, with so many who have 'awaken', and all the spiritual changes occurring...the year of the Snake...well...if you really think about it....see my intrigue:)
During this Spiritual Gab, we also touched a little on healing with color, when Linda shared about a man who had a stroke that is getting color therapy and it's working wonders for him...which made me more thankful that over the past few weeks with Rick opening big to colors and their healing properties, that their wonders have been passed on to me via when I do Reiki on him.
It's truly been amazing not only has Reiki energy helped Rick through his surgery and healing...but... what I eventually was gifted with by God/Angels/Spirit Guides last week while doing Reiki on him...caused me awe and I knew it was something special...just like Eagle was in May of 2009. &. PHOTOS
I imagine I am not alone in that many of you have been feeling the growth and it's growing pains but not totally understanding it; especially has we've started the New Year. Thus in Feb...the month of purification, during Spiritual Gab, we will discus the journey from Jan to Feb and how it affected us. So keep notes of what's gone on with you, no matter how small incidents may seem... I think we'll have much to share:)
Plus during Feb Spiritual Gab, with Colors seemingly to be a reoccurring thing for me, in Reiki sessions and in the Wheel, I think we are suppose to share. So I'll try and share what I've learned and been shown about colors, lessons not learned in books but directly from the devine (I am still in the learning stage but can share a little). I think it would be fun too, to do a little exercise on colors and try to figure out what they mean for you personally just like Medicine Helpers they are specific to you.
