When I'm forced to take a step back, I try and tell myself, it's merely life's way of allowing me to re-evaluate where I am, where I want to be and if I'm headed in the right direction.
Kellie M. Shanley
Getting older doesn't bother me, but It seems lately I'm reminded of it more frequently than I'd like.
Checking out at the grocery store Saturday evening, some snot nosed kid called me....Mam. OK ...he really wasn't a snot nosed kid, he was a nice young man. But... in those few seconds, while I thought, what is he thinking, MAM? I feel 40 therefore I must look 40, I felt better telling myself he was a snot nose tyrant calling me a bad name. Really, how could I be upset, he was telling it like it is, and to him even 40 is older. So I thanked him for being a nice young man and then explained with my age of wisdom weaved within the gray hairs on my head, that a polite young man is something I don't encounter that often anymore and it was a nice change. He blushed and I think he was glad I didn't pinch his cheek.
Now, I've noticed I... tune in...towards more serene sounds. Dean Martin...some of you might remember him, some of you may not....I do. I liked him when I was younger, but he wasn't one of my favorite singers...to mellow for taste then.
Monday, I was driving to my sisters, to pick her up for our day out, of taking her to see the new Wal-Mart on Southwestern, Do lunch and her Doctors appointment. I don't play the radio often while driving, but this time I turned it on and was listening to 104.1 the oldies station. After turning up the volume, singing along and rocking with Robert Palmer as he belted out Bad Case Of Loving You. I left the volume alone when Dean Martin came on crooning...Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow.http://www.whtt.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.tunegenie.com/onair/whtt/ ( If you want to listen, Click calendar for Dec 14th and songs played at 9AM) The song ended. I found I was smiling and still humming Let it snow. How could this have happened...I liked it as much as rocking Robert Palmer. But I cannot tell a lie. Dean, though I enjoyed our time together...Robert...you still rock in my book, and that's the facts MAM.
Because everything today is thrown at us in bulk, super and mega sizes, I wonder if we don't have a tendency to underestimate the power of one at a time. If so...think about the snow that fell, one flake at a time, last week socking us in over night. Ahh the power of one at a time.
