Hello From Herbs & Things:)Each species is a masterpiece, a creation assembled
with extreme care and genius.
Edward

In the last
newsletter I was so excited about the fun Gab session, I forgot
to mention and say Thank-you to Denise and Jen for their generous donations for
the Medicine Wheel?
Thank you girls...and also thank you to everyone that
brought such delicious foods to the Gab...it really was so much
fun.
I've been asked...What are they
doing down on Heath road near Hayes Hollow?
Answer...from
what I understand they are drilling a new gas well.
Does this mean they are
Fracking?
Well there seems to be a difference of opinion.
Wondering
myself, I searched to see if Fracking and Well drilling were different or
the same thing...some say different, some say the same. Some say the fracking is
the finishing task after the natural gas well is drilled...

here..http://www.nytimes.com/gwire/2011/05/13/13greenwire-baffled-about-fracking-youre-not-alone-44383.html?pagewanted=all
Fracking
Vertically is legal, Horizontal Fracking is not. And from what I was
told they are vertically drilling this new gas well. What is the difference in
Vertical and Horizontal fracking, just as it reads. It's the horizontal fracking
that is the most detrimental to the earth because of the chemicals used and the
upset it causes.
Read here about the Difference between Horizontal
and Vertical Fracking...http://marcellusdrilling.com/2012/03/new-yorks-40-year-history-of-yes-fracking/
Believe it or not, vertical gas well drilling
has been going on in NY for more years than most of us know. Probably
even before the first natural gas well used in Ferdonia NY in 1861. I remember
my mother and father talking about this house had a coal furnace when they
bought it, and was one of the first houses to get natural gas in this area, 60
years ago. Which they said yes too and signed a line/ property lease agreement,
in or around1950-51.

Gas, which dates back to when the Native Americans were one of the
first users of natural gas when they lived near Lake Erie... http://www.naturalgas.org/overview/history.asp
and
Apparently sometimes, I must be bombarded to be
reminded to do something. Such as search what Flicker 'speaks'
of.
Flicker came to me a couple weeks ago...first time I was
driving behind a car that had to slow and swerve around one standing in the
road. Then it was my turn to drive around it and as I was admiring it's beauty,
telling it too it needed to get out of the road ...it watched me look at it.
Once I got by, it walked away. I knew then Flicker was 'speaking' to me. Did I
search the meaning? No.
A couple days later...same thing
happened, and again Flicker stared at me while I went around it, telling it,
"it's not safe being in the road. Did I search it's meaning? No not
yet.
However Flicker is persistent. A couple days later putting up the open
sign for the shop, one was staring at me from inside the horse corral. I said,
"oh yeah, I need to search what message you have." Again, did I? NO.
Then
with a last ditch effort to get my attention, Saturday driving back from the
Farmers Market, one flew straight towards the windshield of the Jeep. I thought
for sure I was going to hit it...lucky it swerved just in time.
Did I look up
it's message this time...Yes. I didn't want Flicker getting hurt trying to get
my attention.
What does
Flicker 'Speak' of...
Connections to New Rhythm in life, Growth
and healing love...Especially around the summer solstice...
According to Sun
Bear, Chippewa Medicine Man, it speaks of Strong Sun Moon in Medicine Wheel
Astrology
(Read about The Medicine Wheel Vision...http://www.ewebtribe.com/StarSpiderDancing/sunbearvision/ )
This corresponds to
the period between June 21-July22 or the sign in Cancer in traditional
astrology
To the Native Americans Flicker is a particularly courageous
bird.
The red on the head and black crescent on the breast are
symbolic reflecting new and bounding leaps of spiritual growth.
( OH No,
growing pains again???:)
The red reflects stimulation of the head and throat
chakras
Change of Physical and Material life.( hope this is good
changes:)
And funny too, Kathy H. said my astrology chart said the same
thing, sometime in June, things changing for me...Hmmmmmmmm, and didn't Raven a
month or so ago 'speak' of the same things....changes?
Number
One=Beginnings, Originality, Leader
Red=Passion
Strength
Black=Protection,
Birth
Brown=Grounded, New growth
And by the way, since
I've studied it's message, I've not seen Flicker again:)
Speaking of the summer solstice, it will be here
before we know it..Thursday June 21st.
From Flickers
message, I think I am suppose to make sure and honor the Summer Solstice. I know
I'll probably be walking the Wheel and invite anyone else to do a Solstice Walk
that evening if anyone is interested. Let me know if you are interested. Then
I'll know if I should put something together.
The summer season
is about seeds planted that come to fruition, and seeing what
we've sowed and worked for.
It is also the season for the Wise One
within, a good time for physic development and connecting to nature and or
guides, god, angels or nature spirits.
The angelic powers of summer are with
Auriel/Uriel 'the light of God'. Auriel is the voice of wisdom, and the one to
check with when making a tough decision.

Remember
snake came to me weeks ago and was hanging around the house and
garden? I'd not seen her in a while and thought...maybe she
left. But when I thought about it... it didn't
feel like she'd left. I just knew she was still here.
The
other morning Rick and I were talking about her and I told him, "Hmm I keep
calling that snake a her. I wonder how you can tell the difference between the
male and female? But maybe it didn't make any difference, I was pretty sure it
was a female, it felt feminine, and the first time I saw her, my very first
thought, she's going to have babies.
Sure enough, she's a
she..because Tuesday there in the garden a baby snake and she was sunning
herself. I bet there is more than one baby too. Snake has that great message
too, about healing and shedding of old ways...
I find it kind of
funny in a way, because I am not real fond of snakes, probably because
I don't understand them, to have one take residence in my garden and have her
babies there, where I'll want to watch every time I go in there to pull
weeds.
The funny part is, this is a perfect example that God has a sense of
humor:)
Let the canning begin!
Yep I started. Sunday I canned strawberries. From a flat which
is 8 quarts, I got 16 pints and some for strawberry shortcake. I am not sure if
I'll can any more, but I got a good start on the season. Soon it looks like
beets will be ready, so here comes the yummy pickled beets. I am not sure about
the turnip. I think I waited to long to thin them. It was difficult because they
got big...so I am hoping I did not disturb them to much and they will grow.
Potatoes are coming finally, They took a while to sprout, But in one day I went
from 16 plants emerging to double that of 32 then the next day triple that and
so on. Soon the rows will be running over with green...yeaaaaa.
Squash plants
are coming nicely too.
Peppers and tomato's have blossoms, and onions are
doing good. July, I'll have garlic for the Farmers Market.
Speaking of canning and of course canning is
about 'stocking' up too, the other day while mowing I was told
we need to stock up on flour, and I also got a sense of urgency, like a couple
weeks urgency?(I know their time and ours is different so couple weeks could be
off) with the stock up thing too. So now is the time to go where you go, and get
stocked up on shelve stable items. I know I am.
What's the worst that can
happen, I am wrong....But... there will be lots of stuff in the
pantry:)
Be well
Laugh often
Love large
Dig in the
dirt
Grow a garden
and may the sun light your way

Heron 'Speaks'~Cedar Benches~Newsletter from 6/8/12
Hello From Herbs & Things:)The moment one gives attention to anything, even a blade
of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in
itself.
~Henry Miller~
Wow, it's Friday already! The week flew by and here I am just writing to you. I've been playing catch up mowing like I am sure everyone has. We so needed the rain, but after a few days enough was enough, plus it was a little to chilly.
I remember a summer when I was a young girl about 11 or 12, even then I thought, it was a perfect summer. The sun came out every day with clear blue skies and rained a perfect rain during the nights watering everything just enough. I remember it was low humidity, the flowers and trees were beautiful because of the equal amount of sun, and rain, with almost perfect not to hot days. Yesterday was close to that perfect summer, but a bit to cool. 'Speaking' of flew by, every time I walked or mowed the Wheel this week, Heron payed a visit. First two then one Blue Heron, then Green Heron, first one then two Green Heron. I'll be curious to see if Heron comes today.
Heron Speaks of
Aggressive Self Determination and Reliance
It speaks of walking a different path than others. (funny how were just talking about that at Spiritual Gab Wed. and I mentioned about me walking to my own beat. Always have even as a child.)
Heron helps one follow their own path...(and wasn't that what a couple newsletters was about...My and Herbs & Things path and it was going to be different:)
Heron is a wader, signifying wading through the waters of life. It speaks of grabbing opportunities (hence the message I received in the Wheel Tuesday, "This is the year of opportunities)
Heron's color specifically Green Heron speaks of living life in ones own unique style and balance between earth and air, knowing what's best for you with out the prompting of others.
Numbers
One=Beginnings, Originality, Leader
Two=Feminine, Dreams, Cooperation

Blue Happiness, calms, truth
Green=Growth, Healing, Abundance
Spiritual Gab cookout was fun, fun, fun. What a wonderful evening and gathering of friends and like minded people. Thank goodness the cool breeze settled and we were able to stay outside to eat. When the evening turned cooler ( it seemed right on time) we came inside, where we talked about the book 'The Circle Maker'( inspired by Honi the circle maker), God , prayers, the Medicine Wheel and listening to that voice and learning how to tell when it is 'the voice' and not your own thoughts.
We discussed how often it's hard telling 'the voice' and your own thoughts apart because the difference could be compared to identical twins, if you don't know them it's hard to tell which is which. I was asked how I know the difference? The best way I can describe it is, a knowing deep in your being. It's a feeling, that when it's there you know it, but if you question it that often means it's not 'the voice' and it's your own thoughts dictating to you. It's such a fine line, kinda of like one particular music note amongst many that until you train your ear, it will just blend in, but with practice and more practice...ah ha...you'll hear the note no matter where it's placed or when you hear it. I'm still practicing hearing that note.
I love that fact that no matter at what age you are at in your life, you can learn something new every day. Last Sunday at the Farmers Market I learned of the Spittle bug. It's an odd name isn't it...also called the Frog Hopper. It's not a destructive pest, but more a of nuisance. We've all seen them or actually saw their protective cover and didn't' know there was a bug under there. It's that foamy stuff that looks like someone spit on the plant...usually in the joint areas.
That's a Spittle Bug and the bubbles of 'spit' are what it produces to hide itself. You don't need pesticide to rid your plants of them, just a hosing or a good rain will do the trick. Read more about the Spittle bug...http://gardening.about.com/od/insectpestid/a/Spittlebugs.htm
I had a big surprise the other day. John E. someone I knew from the 4-H days, now in his late 40's came to visit the Wheel. He then brought his children one by one and was blown away from what he felt and heard. We were talking about all he felt, and I mentioned, I'd been instructed to put four more benches in the Wheel, but I've not bought the lumber and made them yet. But I will.
Friday while packing up for Farmers Market he and his brother pull in the driveway and he says "Kellie can you come here for a minute, I have something to show you."
I walked over to the pickup truck and there in the back were 5 beautiful cedar benches he and his brother Bill, crafted for the Wheel. It was cedar wood he said he had laying around and didn't know what he was ever going to do with it'. But then, we talked:)
He was so excited and got more excited when he saw the look on my face. I told him of course he didn't know what he was going to do with the cedar, but God and that cedar knew exactly where it was going, they were just waiting for the right time.
He got more excited when I told him, because he gifted the benches to Wheel he would have to be part of them going to the Wheel. So Wednesday morning at 9 AM, he came here and we went with sage, tobacco, Turkey feather in hand, and took the benches to the Wheel and one to the Memory Garden. One by one he offered and placed his gift. It was more emotional than he had anticipated. It was a wonderful morning and experience for both of us.
One reason I love the benches so much is not just the time and effort that went in to them but oh they smell wonderful.
Did you know that cedar is one of the best aromatherapy scents to relax you emotionally and physically and also help you to 'see' and 'hear' better. It is one of the oldest biblical essential oils that symbolized abundance, fertility and spiritual strength.
To Native Americans, Cedar wood oil was not only used to cure physical illnesses, it is used to cleanse the spirit, ward off evil, and to communicate with nature, both plants and animals. Through-out history, cedar wood oil has been used by many cultures, in different ways to prevent or cure illnesses. So come to the Wheel, sit on the bench and you too might be able to communicate with nature better.
Even as a child, I always ate the egg yolk and left the white behind. I know I've mentioned the egg before, but I was intrigued by the fact its the egg yolk I always want even today as an adult, when I should 'know better' because we are always told, don't eat those bad eggs.
Well, as per instructions, I searched to learn again a little more about the Egg, specifically this time about the Yolk.
I was excited to learn that my body was telling me the truth and the yolk is in fact very good for you. The yolk of the EGG is jam packed full of nutrients your body needs. The White far less. What I didn't know is that, the Egg always quoted as being so high in cholesterol, has armed its self with things that help lower and keep your cholesterol in balance. It also gives us that so important Vitamin D and often much needed B vitamins.
The cholesterol fighting factor in the egg as in grass fed beef...is CHOLINE. Amazing how if you let it, Nature knows what's best for us.
So I find it kind of funny, even when "they" said eggs were bad for you, that I never stopped eating them, especially the yolks...this must be why, even in the winter, I've never needed a vitamin D supplement, nor any B's and if I try to take either of these in supplement form my body tells me...UH NO.
Anyhow, if you are not fond of or don't have the income to take supplements, then let me introduce you to the simple, underestimated, where you'll find an abundant of nutrients in one of most simple and natural packaged foods to date...The EGG.
Important though is eating the right eggs, which are Eggs from chickens that are free to scratch, peck and eat bugs. These healthier more nutritious good for you eggs are higher in Omega 3's, D, B's and Choline.(it must be the bugs:)
And did yo know eating Eggs can help with the fight against, depression, anxiety, asthma, Alzheimer's, obesity, and believe it or not that high cholesterol we all worry about...because of the Choline...
